There are still many places in the world were self-treatment at a familiar scale is the only realistic solution to ensure continuous access to drinking water. UV disinfection treatment is an efficient solution to conventional methods, however its energetical needs is hindering its implementation in remote off-grid households. In this work we have explore the possibility of using pulsed radiation operation as strategy to reduce the energy demand of a made-in-house water disinfection portable system.
In our study we have found that oulsed radiation strategy shows a noteworthy reduction of 88% od the energy consumption, while improving the sterilization effectiveness.
We aim the prototype to be an example of a technological improvement which uses energy efficiency as key developing driver while achieving performance requirements.
